Biographical history
La Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes estuvo durante la década del ’50 en la órbita del Ministerio de Instrucción Pública. Por la ley de Presupuesto de 1957 ingresa a la Universidad de la República como Escuela dependiente del Rectorado y luego de un proceso de más de cuarenta años, en 1993, por resolución del Consejo Directivo Central, se constituye en Instituto Asimilado a Facultad, estando en el presente en proceso de constituir la Facultad de Artes conjuntamente con la Escuela Universitaria de Música.
